Cork is a natural, organic, sustainable product that is soft to the touch, feather light and durable. Cork compares to the texture of nubuck suede. It’s also water resistant.
Creators Ingrid Heinkel and Jetta Hanover are the owners of Cork Design, and they introduced eco-friendly cork handbags and other cork fashion and home accessories that are stylish as well as functional. At left is the Bucket Bag Natural — lined with zipper pocket compartment, cell phone holder and has full zip closure. It measures 10 inches high, 14 inches wide, and 6 1/2 inches deep.
The Knapsack Tiger, below, closes with a magnetic snap, has a side zipper opening with extra exterior compartment closed with wood toggle, two 32-inch straps, adjustable with a buckle. It measures 11″ long at base, 11″ high. The top measures 7″ and bottom measures 14” and 4 1/2″ wide.
Cork oak forests are all over Spain and Portugal. Cork harvesting is one of the best examples of a sustainable agro-forestry system.
The Cork Design product line (for women and for men) includes handbags, shoulder bags, clutches, totes, wallets, belts, special purpose bags, placemats, coaster sets, and mouse pads. Prices from $2 to $185.
