Fashion Friday — owls howl in home decor

Whoooo knew owls would get so popular? This image from Pier One is just one of the many cuties you’ll find in stores where owls are plentiful. While vacationing in New Mexico, I bought my great niece a stuffed owl heavy enough to be a doorstop. Her mom told me she was doing an entire room in owls, and there we were buying owls of all shapes and sizes in Pier One and other stores.

Susan Smith, one of our writers for Lake Erie LifeStyle,  filled us in on owls for a story in our December 2011 issue. Read it here. That same month,  I wrote an article about how how owls and birds were the popular items for Christmas decorations. Read it here. I’m heading to an open house tonight at Trellis in Erie and I expect to see an owl or two on the prowl.

Owls bring back fond memories for me. I had a yarn picture I made in grade school that was most impressive. Somehow it actually looked like an owl against a dark blue backdrop (of course it was a yarn background). I wish I had saved it. My mom had a big white owl cookie jar that often held chocolate chip cookies, and I have no idea where that went. And finally, a beautiful barn owl sat on our porch railing many nights when my kids were little. I remember seeing it guarding the house at night as I looked out the screen door. It had entire family in a backyard tree that fascinated my kids. Hoot!
