A recent survey in my family — among my kids — revealed that my youngest son would say “I love you” to his girlfriend before my daughter would say the words to a boyfriend. My older son also would beat my daughter to the “L” word.
That supports some crazy dating surveys that indicate men say “I love you” first and more often than women.
Here’s a link to a 2011 Psychology Today article that analyzes men to death and discusses the Mirage Man and desperation among couples who get together more for lust than love.
Another article in Science of Relationships agrees that men utter the “L” word first.
At Askmen.com, a relationship expert advises a letter writer to never say “I Love You” first in this advice column. I like a Yahoo forum where one guy said it didn’t matter. Two other men said that women scare men off using those words.
A Glamour article agrees women should wait for men to say it first, and some of the comments indicate a lot of people in relationships have never said the words. Scary.
