Wedding Ring or Engagement Ring on whiteI never thought about the gunk I get on my rings. Or bracelets. Or necklaces. Until I opened an e-mail that told me all about my jewelry germs. Ick!

In a press release, David Bellman, inventor of the Aquasonic Wave jewelry cleaning system, and Dr. Holly Neefe, a pediatrician with 17 years of experience, warned that bacteria gets on our jewelry, and it makes us  carriers for some nasty germs.

Bellman invented the AquaSonic Wave, an at-home professional-quality jewelry cleaning system, but this isn’t a commercial for that. However, it is notable that Bellman’s co-inventor is Dean Kamen,  inventor of the portable kidney dialysis machine, and the Segway — those cool transport systems we ride in big cities, at the peninsula and at Peek ‘n Peak. For more information visit www.aquasonicwave.com.

Here’s an article from Woman’s Day on DIY — how to clean your jewelry at home. It includes quick tips on how to clean pearls, diamonds, sterling silver, gold and turquoise. Here’s an ehow link on how to clean opals.

Young businessman standing over a young businesswoman sleeping on a couchIn a word: Kids? USA Today, National Public Radio and other venues have brought up a Center for Disease Control Study that 10 percent of men  and 15 percent of women aged 18-44 are exhausted. Here’s the USA Today article.

Most of the articles about the study attribute the fatigue to child-rearing. I think it’s interesting that the CDC put out the graph below that NPR used,Tired women

I don’t see anything in that graph except that women are permanently more tired than men.

The comments on Scott Hensley’s article on the NPR page “Annals Of The Obvious: Women Way More Tired Than Men” are worth reading.

Draw your own conclusions. I think it’s time for a nap.

In a segment this morning on ABC-News Good Morning America, a government report revealed that some vaccines may be stored improperly and therefore less effective — see it and read it here.

It quotes numerous docs and officials including those from the Center for Disease Control. The vaccines — even if stored improperly — are not harmful, but may not offer the substantial protection parents expect of immunizations. Doctors quoted in the report suggest that parents ask their doctors about storage of vaccines and expiration dates.
