The kitchen looks into a beautiful, newer family room that spans across the back of the house. It includes plenty of windows and doors that bring in the professional landscape outside.

We all know I m an open house fanatic. Last week, we saw one of the cutest homes ever in the Frontier area — one of many regions I would love to live.

And you get a Madison Avenue address! It’s not NYC, it’s better. This is another great example of how you can’t judge a book by its cover. The front of the house is cute, but inside — it’s wow — with an extraordinary family room addition and backyard retreat — all hidden from that front view. Surprise houses are always my faves. Read my story here:  Darling and done right on Madison. Oh and don’t miss the custom cabinetry, family room and fireplace in the lower-level gameroom.

Spring fever

Spring is technically here, but we are still fighting some snow, so snow matter — it’s time to decorate like the sun is shining and the windows are open. We have some great ideas you can do right now to snazz up your home for when we do open those windows. Here they are:

The power of paint – get creative
Looking into glass vanity sink top – this is clearly amazing
Unorthodox picket fences enhance your yard  — you’ll love these nature-made ideas
Spring pillows refresh home’s look – colorful pillows can make a huge difference in any room
How-to’s for a heavenly hallway – I love this story — we did little to decorate hallways over the years because kids often knocked pictures off the walls while racing through hallways.
Add majesty to any room with a wood cabinet  — if you have Grandma’s chest hidden in a basement, get it out and polish it up — it will look terrific in any room — open the doors and display your dishes and fun collectibles.

Outside, get ready for spring with Sue Scholz — she shares the Perennial of the Year
Casabubble – this is like living in a glass house. Fascinating — like a see-through tent $7,000 and up.

Luxury vinylI remember when flooring was very obviously a laminate, wood, stone, tile or something else. Not anymore.

I’ve seen incredible concrete and other materials that look like natural wonders. To catch up on what’s out there, read the cover story this week in House to Home right here. If that vinyl flooring story doesn’t surprise you — here’s another on leather — it’s on floors, doors and much more.

In the next few weeks, I’ll be taking you inside some breathtaking homes and showing you the ingenuity of a grandmother who made clever play kitchens for her granddaughters.
