VictoriaLocal authors are meeting during a local author fair, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 5909 Peach St.

Participating authors include Victoria Norvaisa, who recently published her first novel “Desire and Red Wine — A Life’s Journey.” This is Victoria’s first novel, and it captures the triumphs and tragedies of one family’s journey from WWI, through Nazi journey and settlement in the United States after WWII. We are giving one of her books away next week in Her Times.

Jamie Wilsoncross, Cinthia Ritchie, Lenore Skomal, Ken Springirth, Holly Jacobs and others round out the crew. Books are available for purchase and will be signed on site. Proceeds benefit the McDowell High School Literature Club.

If you are stuck for a gift idea for anyone with ties to Erie, here are some of my faves:

Pizza Bomber: The Untold Story of America’s Most Shocking Bank Robbery” Ed Palattella and Jerry Clark co-authored the book about their investigations into the collar-bomb death of Brian Wells. You can watch a replay of their live chat on GoErie.com at www.goerie.com/chat. I know both these guys — they are awesome.

They will have a book signing today at The Erie Book Store at 4:30 p.m and at Books-A-Million in the Millcree Mall Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Werner Books, Books Galore, The Erie Book Store and on Amazon and other outlets. For more information: pizzabomber.com. The book has been optioned for a movie in Hollywood.

“Bluff” by Lenore Skomal. Lenore’s book is a terrific mystery that will keep you guessing, and she is planning a sequel. I know Lenore, and she weaves a great story with memorable characters.

Honoring the New York Central Railroad”  by Kenneth Springirth. Ken knows railroad, and he has a series of books that are all fascinating railroad tales. I know Ken — he is an interesting historian — if you have a question on rail, just ask him.

Fortune and Fury” by David Frew and Jerry Skrypzak. These gentlemen share some of Erie’s richest history of the waterfront. It’s a great read for anyone who loves Erie. I know both of these guys, and this book is filled with personality and memories of old Erie. All proceeds benefit The Erie Historical Society.

These are just a few of the great books written by local authors. Suggest more right here.

This week, House to Home features a new listing that offers the lake view everyone wants along with the open floor plan everyone wants. And there’s more.  It has some 1960s retro style and contemporary artistry you won’t find anywhere else.
At 7350 North Shore Drive, homeowners Rick Sayers and Lenore Skomal  renovated a charmer into a plush California-style ranch that sits on 1.4 acres of lush landscape. The lake view easily steals the show, but vaulted and beamed ceilings add nice touches, and the 20-by-13-foot kitchen features artistry with an olive tree sculpture that appears to grow along the east wall of the house. Tom Moberg of Des Moines, Iowa, creates these one of a kind landscapes in finer homes and businesses throughout the United States.
You might find some awesome inspiration at this home. Author Lenore Skomal did. She wrote “Bluff,” a fascinating mystery while sitting in her office that overlooks the bluff. Click here for an excerpt.

You can see the view and more tomorrow when listing agent Al Ames of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services hosts an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. This home includes three bedrooms, two and a half baths, 1,820 square feet of living area and much more. It lists at $425,000. For more information, call Ames at 881-2000.
