Three things I’m loving this week:

OLD CHRISTINE OPEN WATER

1. CBS. Among all the reality, death-and-crime and talent shows on the major networks, there are a few hilarious 1/2-hour comedy gems and most of them are on CBS. Fall programming brings new episodes and new laughs. Check out:

“The New Adventures of the Old Christine” (proof that Julia Louis Dryfus…and Wanda Sykes…are comedic geniuses) — Wednesdays on CBS at 8 p.m.

“Gary Unmarried” — Wednesdays on CBS at 8:30 p.m.

“Rules of Engagement” (David Spade AND “Puddy” from Seinfeld) — Mondays on CBS at 8:30 p.m.

“Two-and-a-half Men” (plenty of “adult” humor…make sure the kids are in bed or plan to explain some hard-to-explain concepts) — Mondays on CBS at 9 p.m.

“The Big Bang Theory” (not one of my all-time favorites, but..the nerds grew on me) — Mondays on CBS at 9:30 p.m.

“How I Met Your Mother” (again…not my favorite show, but…good for a few laughs, especially Neil Patrick Harris) — Mondays on CBS at 8 a.m.

2. The Maleno Family. Gotta give it to the Maleno family — builders who were so inspired by their experience doing an “Extreme Makeover” for Clara Ward that they started the Maleno Family Fund to help other worthy Erie-area residents renovate their homes. They announced the latest recipient — Patricia Fronzaglia — and got to work on her home this week. Watch the inspiring video here.

3. Concerts to look forward to. It’s been a slow concert year here in Erie (could have something to do with all that entertainment tax they keep stuffing down our throats…read more about that in the “things I’m not loving” below), but Nov. 6 & 7th, the Warner is hosting back-to-back concerts — first, country superstar Darius Rucker (yes, the old Hootie and the Blowfish frontman has gone country..and he’s fantastic) on Friday and Train (with Erie native Pat Monahan) on Saturday night. Tickets went on sale for Train last week. Tickets for Darius go on sale Saturday morning (bet I can beat you to Ticketmaster!).

Things I’m not loving this week:

1. Mackenzie Phillips. TMI. TMI. TMI.  Oh, Oprah..how could you even get involved in this? It’s creepy on so many levels…true or untrue.

2. 6% ADDITIONAL entertainment tax. This proposal in the long-awaited state budget will kill the arts and entertainment industry in Erie. This 6% tax is on TOP of the 3% entertainment tax the city already slapped Erie arts and entertainment venues with. Write your state legislators now!
