If you are stuck for a gift idea for anyone with ties to Erie, here are some of my faves:

Pizza Bomber: The Untold Story of America’s Most Shocking Bank Robbery” Ed Palattella and Jerry Clark co-authored the book about their investigations into the collar-bomb death of Brian Wells. You can watch a replay of their live chat on GoErie.com at www.goerie.com/chat. I know both these guys — they are awesome.

They will have a book signing today at The Erie Book Store at 4:30 p.m and at Books-A-Million in the Millcree Mall Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Werner Books, Books Galore, The Erie Book Store and on Amazon and other outlets. For more information: pizzabomber.com. The book has been optioned for a movie in Hollywood.

“Bluff” by Lenore Skomal. Lenore’s book is a terrific mystery that will keep you guessing, and she is planning a sequel. I know Lenore, and she weaves a great story with memorable characters.

Honoring the New York Central Railroad”  by Kenneth Springirth. Ken knows railroad, and he has a series of books that are all fascinating railroad tales. I know Ken — he is an interesting historian — if you have a question on rail, just ask him.

Fortune and Fury” by David Frew and Jerry Skrypzak. These gentlemen share some of Erie’s richest history of the waterfront. It’s a great read for anyone who loves Erie. I know both of these guys, and this book is filled with personality and memories of old Erie. All proceeds benefit The Erie Historical Society.

These are just a few of the great books written by local authors. Suggest more right here.

Joe Hilbert announced recently that Pulakos Chocolates will return to downtown Erie right near Pufferbelly Restaurant at 410 French Street in November.

Generations of us remember Pulakos at its original downtown location – 926 State Street where it operated from 1916 to 1971. The windows always had incredible chocolate displays. Mmmm. Many of Erie’s famous chocolatiers had downtown locations and the windows were the subject of many pictorial features in the Erie Times-News.

Hilbert announced that the new location will include candy, baked goods, flavored coffee and more.

Hilbert bought Pulakos in 2009. The company operates locations at 2503 Parade Street and at the Starbucks Plaza in the Millcreek Mall. Hilbert also plans a new location on West 26th Street.

For more information, visit the Pulakos website here.

With every shoe sold, etnies will plant a tree. The program is called “Buy A Shoe, Plant A Tree.” This year they are planting 100,000 trees in Brazil! (Last year they planted 35,000 in Costa Rica).
This is a photo of the Caprice Eco priced at $50. Cute, huh? Styles suit men, women and kids. Locally, the shoes are available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, at the Millcreek Mall; Journeys, at the Millcreek Mall; Pac Sun, at the Millcreek MallShoe Fly Shoe, 7520 Peach St. Erie, Pa.

Styles go back to the 1920s

Stephanie Solomon, Operating VP of Fashion Direction for Women’s Ready-To-Wear says styles from the 20s and 50s are hot along with matching cardigans and neon bags. Some of the timeless designs are also 70ish —  I swear I had a dress that looked just like one in the Solomon video.  Also, color blocking is huge and we have a great feature on how to wear it by Lili Morton in Her Times Sunday, June 3.

Other popular styles from howdini.com include: Printed jeans & tribal pattern fashion trends for Spring 2012How to dress with spring 2012 neon fashion trendsHow to dress with the latest Mad Men fashion trends in 2012 and How to dress with men’s accessories for 2012 Mad Men fashion trends.
