Pantone color of the yearPANTONE announced today that Radiant Orchid is the color to wear and have for 2014.

According to a news releases on the Pantone website: “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

In fashion, Pantone suggests Radiant Orchid will provide a “healthy glow for men and women.” And it will be in clothing and accessories. Look for it on nails as well.

In the house, the Radiant Orchid works with greens, turquoise, teal and some yellows. And it lifts neutrals.

About Pantone: For more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

pantoneGet ready to pair some neutrals with some vibrant hues. Pantone hit the catwalk at New York Fashion Week last month with designers and shared the spring 2014 color palette.

The colors have something for everyone and offer ideas that mix and match in style. How about Sand with Hemlock? Leatrice Eisemann does a terrific job telling us about it in the 5-minute video on the Pantone link.

Nature calls with sunset colors include Celosia Orange and Violet Tulip. That’s just one mix. The No, 1 color for spring? Dazzling Blue — it’s everywhere and it’s not navy.

Weddings are picking up on cobalt blue as a popular shade. Here’s an Etsy page of cool blue ideas. It’s cobalt, not Dazzling, but it’s blue.

The official 2014 color of the year comes out in December.

In the meantime, enjoy colors that hit the runway for 2014.

Pantone’s selection of tangerine stole the show in 2012, and the new year will be coming up green with Pantone’s choice of emerald as the color of 2013.

It’s the color of money and signifies growth. In fact, it’s a pretty shade for grass and pretty much every tree. What a great choice. I know the Girl Scouts are happy about the selection.

In honor of this announcement, I bought a green dress. I now have an excuse to buy more green stuff.

A few months ago, the PANTONE Color Institute posted its top 10 women’s fashion colors for Spring 2013. Glamour Magazine did a great piece on it. Read my blog on that topic here. Those colors include: Bright ChartreuseEthereal RhapsodyFrench Roastgrayed-down purpleHoney GoldOlympian BluePink FlambéTangerine TangoUltramarine GreenAfrican violetdusk blue and of course emeraldPantone’s colorists also told us how hot all greens would become in fashion for the next year. Read my blog on that here.

Right now, let’s all get out there and spend some green on something green.

We are barely into fall fashions, but here come the spring colors.  These look a little muted on the page, but believe me they are anything but shy. The image at left is from Glamour magazine.

The PANTONE Color Institute posted its top 10 women’s fashion colors for Spring 2013. This Monaco Blue dress is one of the splashy colors that will make its appearance in fashion. The pillow, pictured below, is hot in home accessories. I love all the colors and poppy red, emerald, lemon zest and tender shoots are my favorites. Which one is your favorite?
