The land ighthouse will be open to tours benefiting the Erie Playhouse’s Youtheatre program this summer. Almitra Clerkin, executive director of the Erie Playhouse, was leading tours of the lighthouse Wednesday night. See a video tour of the lighthouse by Greg Wohlford here. Sean McCracken interviewed her for a story in the Erie Times-News — read it here, and this is the second year of this fundraiser for the playhouse. Last year, the tours raised $4,500 for the playhouse’s youth program. Clerkin said the lighthouse was replaced by the 68-foot Presque Isle Lighthouse, partially because Presque Isle continued to grow eastward, blocking a direct view into the lake. Tours of the lighthouse also will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, then again July 7, 8, 20 and 21 and August 18 and 19. Tickets are $5 per person.
Erie Maritime Museum is hosting narrated tours of Erie’s three historic lighthouses on June 30.
