We have plenty to celebrate in House to Home this week. Countryside has a grand opening of its Phase II section in Summit Township. The Maleno development is a neighborhood of patio homes. It is something to see, and the design center, housed inside a patio home with a walkout basement, gives house hunters a look at all the latest and greatest ideas for building a new home. It is a must see — visit Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Natalie Washburn gave me a tour, and there is always something new at Countryside.

b- livingroom.jpgIt’s the lap of luxury this week in House to HomeMore than 75 luxury homes — priced from $400,000 to $2.5 million — are on the market right now in the Erie region. They are certainly well above the average home price, but the interesting thing is: This market is active, and some of the homes are selling — fast. See the homes at www.realestateerie.com website.

Tom and Ortrud Torti of Coldwell Banker Select in Erie sold a stunning $470,000, 2,400-square-foot home on nearly 12 acres in McKean Township in eight days. The photo above is the living room.

Another $600,000 home that Loretta Schaal of RE/Max has listed is getting a lot of traffic. Read my article here.

Sue Scholz gives us news on the latest award-winning vegetables and the schedule for the 53rd Annual Builders Association of NW PA Home Show at Family First today and tomorrow. Read it here. We have a lot more for you in House to Home. Enjoy!

The sun is shining. I’m hoping my daffodils pop open in the next few days. I need to see some yellow flowers!

Sue Scholz gives us the dirt on the upcoming home show at Family First Sports Park. Read her column here, and check out the Builders’ tab in today’s newspaper.

We have much more for you this week. How do you decide on countertop heights? Many homeowners choose multiple heights, and it makes a great home remodeling design. Read about it here.

Look what one designer did with a tiny kitchen. Move the walls and voila — read it here.

Make your own stained glass, and get the value of a wake table — a table that, well, holds some deadly value. Click on the links to read all about it.

At the art of it all – customize your living space with custom art from a local artist. Take a look at what Sabrina Fischer of Sassy Peacock Galleria did for clients. The custom painting on the wall below is exactly what the client wanted — and completed by a local artist. You can do it too. At the art of it all
Award-winning seeds promise living color
Erie’s Sue Scholz tells us about the AAS winner seed packages we can start indoors, and she gives us a glimpse of the colorful beauty that awaits.
Hello Kitty wall graphics – the 40-year-old cat with no mouth is as popular as ever!

Midcentury home is fine fit for young couple – 20 somethings love ranches, and they have vision.
Sink includes smart divide – the perfect kitchen sink is out there. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?
1960s foam home is far-out, sculpted dome – part cave, part art — it’s worth a look.
Adventures with backyard chickens – OK — it’s not for everyone, but backyard farms are gaining fans. Cluck cluck!
Pottery dates to 1920s – sometimes Grandma’s vase is worth a bundle, and sometimes it came from Woolworth’s, but it’s still beautiful.

Happy Saturday!

Woodbriar LaneIn 20 years of writing for House to Home, I don’t think I’ve seen so many nice condos and patio homes on the market at one time until now.

The picture is of one of my favorites behind Erie Day School, but there are some for every price range and plenty are open tomorrow for viewing. Read my full story here. One thing to keep in mind about condos is some developments do not permit For Sale signs, so if you, like me, ride through neighborhoods and figure nothing is for sale — check with a Realtor because right now nearly every condo development in the region has a few for sale.

A shout out to all the folks who sent me their favorites. We couldn’t accommodate everyone, but I will be doing this again. You can create your open house tour here. If the condos you want aren’t on the tour, call a listing agent, get an appointment and check out some great places to live — in all price ranges.

Shamrocks bring Irish home – Sue Scholz gives us the dirt on shamrock plants and the schedule for this weekend’s Home & Garden Expo.
Fun and feasts abound on urban farm – a toddler and her family truly live off the land … and love it.
The Whole Gang’s Here – multiple generations are living under one roof — a growing trend that affects home design.
Fabrics for the Future – jute and other natural fibers aren’t just for rope anymore — they are in rugs and more — and they look great
Patterns refresh furnishings – a little print brightens any room in a hurry.
Implement 5 must-have decorating tools – five quick and easy tools to update your home decor.
Liven up laundry rooms – not just cellar dwellers anymore, laundry rooms become part of the main living space — and look good.
