Social media went nuts when Mitt Romney commented that he would cut funding to PBS. Romney mentioned that he loved Big Bird and moderator Jim Lehrer, but government shouldn’t be funding PBS. USA Today reported immediately on the topic — read it here. The report included that there is a @FiredBigBird account, and another humorous tweet – ”I worked with Big Bird. I served with Big Bird. You, sir, are no Big Bird,” The Lance Arthur, @thelancearthur, of San Francisco tweeted.

A very humorous Big Bird for President 2012 page on Facebook launched. Cookie Monster has been suggested as VP. The group had 500 members an hour after the debate ended.

Twitter handle @BigBirdRomney beat that. It had more than 7,000 followers after the debate.

The posts are funny on both FB and Twitter. Sesame Street character photos have humorous captions all related to saving Big Bird. Looks like some mad muppets out there.

Here’s the Sesame Street song. My kids and I learned plenty from Big Bird and the gang.  Long live Big Bird and all the muppets.

Pigs have become most fashionable this year. Maxwell, the Geico pig has three commercials. Miss Piggy of The Muppets returned for a new movie and dozens of personal appearances (Moi?), Hamm reappeared in Toy Story 3 last year and Piglet never went out of style as Winnie the Pooh‘s sidekick.

Pork is moving closer to home. I heard yesterday that the Jog ‘n Hog hits the peninsula Saturday, June 16 at 8:30am.  For more info please see jognhog.com! The Stanganelli’s Pepperoni Ball Jog ‘n Hog starts runners out at Beach l for a 2-mile jog to Beach 6, where they pig out on a half-dozen pepperoni balls and then jog back. Jog ‘n Hog supports The Erie Community Blood Bank.

Pigs are always worth some laughs. For some of Miss Piggy’s infinitely funny quotes, check out thinkexist.com. One of her funniest: “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.” To see Miss Piggy in one of her finest futuristic moments, check out a “Pigs in Space” episode from Swinetrek skits on The Muppets.

Everyone loves pigs (including pigskin and bacon). So ham it up, and wee wee wee all the way home.
