BLT heaven

I sliced a huge, red ripe homegrown tomato last night, topped it with a leaf of real iceberg lettuce (not the bagged stuff), Miracle Whip (light), bacon and built it with three halves of Arnold’s sandwich thins.I should have toasted the bread, but I was too hungry to wait.

I put sliced turkey on the first one for a club sandwich, and just had tomatoes, lettuce and dressing on the second one. Club sandwiches are a guilty pleasure for me in restaurants, but mine was better.

My hands were a mess. A tomato seed fell on my shirt. It was awesome. More tomato news as the week unfolds. Next I’m making tomato basil pie.

OK, now I must have a BLT, BUT, with mayo–find Miracle Whip too sweet. The tomatoes this year are incredible, apparently they like the heat more than I do. That restaurant in Myrtle Beach is now a must-try, if I get there. Hate sushi, but everything else sounds to die for–salad bars–my thought, I did NOT have to cut that stuff up !!! Best tomatoes this year, Mason Farms. Do not tell my neighbors, but the Mason Farms ones are far better than their all-organic home grown, which are too seedy & watery. You can wash off those chemicals–at my age probably the least of my worries……… Did you ever eat fried green tomatoes–a fav in Tennessee, where I spent my formative years ?? I love them, reminded myself to make some !!

  2. How did that tomato basil pie turn out? It sounds amazing.

I’m in love with tomato basil pie. I made it a few years ago for Loaves&Dishes column. I haven’t made it yet this year.
You know what? I’m going to make it tomorrow night. Thanks for jogging my memory.
