Last night, I donned my sneakers, pulled my hair up and gave an hour of my day to the gym.
Monday marked the first day of the Erie Walks competition (which I mentioned earlier on this blog.) For the next eight weeks, I will be walking, cycling or swimming at least six times a week. I don’t know about you, but that is a challenge for me.
The reason I bring up my fitness goal once again is that it is perfectly timed for what I like to call “5k season.”
For those who visit Volunteer Erie regularly, you may have noticed several posts plugging registrations for local walks/runs. Most of those races occur in May and June. The time to start training is now.
And here’s another race to consider.
The 5th Annual Art & Sole 5k Run/Walk will be held on May 5 at 8:30 a.m.
Proceeds benefit the Inner-City Neighborhood Art House on 201 E. 10th St. Run by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, this community center offers after-school programs and art classes to Erie youth.
The top finishers in each category of the race will be awarded art work done by the children.
Last year, 260 runners and walkers participated in the Art & Sole 5k.
Early bird registration for the race closes on April 16. Registering early qualifies participants for a raffle for a $25 gift card to both Subway and the Erie Sports Store.
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for youth.
All participants will receive an Art & Sole t-shirt. Snacks and refreshments will be provided after the race.
So join me at the gym this April. Be good to your body and help those in need at the same time. It’s a great way to spring forward.
