Sparked Erie offers online microvolunteering

Confession: I love social media.

I’ve been tweeting Volunteer Erie posts using the hashtag #VolunteerErie. The Phoenix Idea Lab, an Erie-based social media marketing firm that focuses on nonprofits, started using the hashtag to promote Sparked Erie, a microvolunteering platform. That piqued my curiosity.

Here’s what the website says:

Welcome to the world’s first entirely-online volunteering service. You and your colleagues can volunteer together – right from your desks – whenever you can find time that’s convenient for you. Just sign-in and start making a difference!

When I logged on, 62 people were participating and the sum of their volunteering was estimated at $23,030.

Getting involved is easy. You join a team based on your location, select causes about which you are passionate and report your skill set.

Then, after submitting basic personal information, you can get started volunteering by doing small tasks for local organizations or ranking efforts.

Microvolunteering is unique because it capitalizes on your skills and makes volunteering easy and accessible, in fact that’s how they advertise it, “help in a hurry.”

To get involved today, check out Sparked Erie’s website.
