This year’s event takes place on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m at the Avalon Hotel.

BreastFest 2012 features the music of local bands Cover Story and Thrist N Howl and Nashville recording artist and Erie native Jason Haney.

In addition to music, there will be a large Chinese auction, raffles and dancing.

Tickets are $5. Included in the ticket price is one raffle entry for an iPad, courtesy of Erie Insurance.

BreastFest 2012 also will launch organization’s largest fundraiser of the year: the five-year anniversary of the 2013 Linked By Pink Calendar. The price of a calendar is $10.

Linked by Pink has raised $18,000 through calendar sales and fundraisers, according to a Her Times article. The proceeds provide medical grants, support groups and scholarships for people touched by breast cancer.

Erie community members came out to support the Pa. Breast Cancer Coalition’s latest fundraiser.

Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer was a homerun derby held on Thursday at the Jerry Uht Park.

Teams of four were able to join for a donation of $500 and single batters could sign up for a $125 donation. The group’s goal for the event was $100,000 statewide. As of Thursday morning, they had $85,000, said Heather Hibshman, executive director.

Batters were awarded points based on how far they hit the ball. The winning team will receive bats customized for the coalition.

A statewide single-batter winner will be announced at the end of July. The event is scheduled to be held at eight minor league stadiums throughout the month.
