Operation Christmas Child Northwestern PA has a need for a large number of teen and adult volunteers for its annual shoe box packing parties on Sept. 27 and 28.
The goal of the parties is to fill 22,000 boxes with gifts for children around the world who are facing poverty, wars and disease. In 2012, Operation Christmas Child Northwestern PA packed 40,376 shoe boxes, and it has set a goal of 45,000 shoe boxes for this year. The boxes are filled with donated school supplies, toys, personal hygiene items, and other small items.
A youth packing party will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m., and a community-wide packing party is set for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both will take place at Grace Church, 7300 Grubb Road, McKean. Lunch will be provided at the Saturday session. Volunteers are invited to attend and help pack for as much or as little time that they can.
