The after-school program at the Urban Erie Community Development Corp., 2046 E. 19th St., attracts 70 to 90 students on a daily basis. Students range in age from 5 to 18 and come from countries from all over the world, including Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Nepal, Liberia, Burundi and many others.
After students finish their homework, they participate in an educational enrichment activity. Volunteers are needed to develop, plan and implement activities for children in various age groups. The program takes place on weekday afternoons throughout the school year.
The organization is seeking volunteers who will develop and conduct activities and workshops that are fun and engaging and are related to science, technology, engineering and math; health and wellness; and arts and crafts. In the past, volunteers have led dental hygiene workshops, worked with children to create mini art projects, and played outdoor recreational activities, among others.
