Former U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie today officially joined some other GOP leaders from Pennsylvania in backing Mitt Romney for president.
The endorsements for Romney gives him a boost against Rick Santorum, the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, as the April 24 state primary draws near.
“Gov. Romney is a big tent conservative who can restore fiscal sanity and global competitiveness to an America where slow growth is robbing the middle class of hope,” English said in a statement.
“Republicans need Mitt Romney’s positive message on jobs and economic innovation to offer real hope to working families and taxpayers in places like Erie, Scranton and Bethlehem,” he said.
English is a member of the Republican State Committee and co-chairman of the Government Relations Practice at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Arent Fox LLP.
Other Republicans who are on the Romney bandwagon include Congressmen Bill Shuster of Hollidaysburg, Jim Gerlach of Berks County and Charlie Dent of the Lehigh Valley.
The GOP leaders announced their support today in Harrisburg.
