Casey: False start on made-in-China uniforms

With all the charges and countercharges about outsourcing in the presidential race, it’s ironic that the U.S. Olympic team will wear uniforms made in China for the opening ceremonies in London.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey said he has written to the U.S. Olympic Committee asking them to commit to using uniforms made in the states.

The decision deprived U.S. manufacturers and their workers the ability to make the uniforms and benefit from the business, Casey said.

“The U.S. Olympic Committee was 100 percent wrong to outsource the manufacturing of U.S. uniforms for the opening ceremony to China,” Casey said in a statement.

“Moving forward, the U.S. Olympic Committee must commit to using only made-in-America uniforms so that the work being done to prepare our athletes for the games creates jobs in America and not in China,” he said.

What do you think?

Sorry, Mr. Casey… it’s too little, too late. The American textile industry was hurt long before this. Why don’t you be more proactive instead of reactive? Instead of talking about outsourcing, why not look for solutions to kkep jobs in America. Oh yea, please forward this to Harry Reid!
