County Council’s Cleaver announces re-election bid

Erie County Councilman Ronald Cleaver has announced his intention to seek a third four-year term.
Cleaver, 74, has represented County Council’s 4th District since 2006. He will be challenged by fellow Democrat Jay Breneman, a 30-year-old social worker, in the May 21 municipal primary.
The 4th District includes southeastern sections of the city of Erie and the Belle Valley section of Millcreek Township. Both candidates live within the district.
Prior to his election to County Council, Cleaver was a 40-year employee of the Erie Parking Authority, retiring as executive director.
Cleaver said he is running for re-election because he wants to continue serving county residents.
