Two for Erie County Council’s DiMattio

It wasn’t just the candidates on the ballot who won nominations in the May 21 primary.

The Erie County Election Office has a list of the 47 winners of write-in nominations on the county government website.

And among the winners is Erie County Councilman Edward T. DiMattio, a Republican who won a Democratic write-in nomination with 57 votes. DiMattio, of Waterford, won the GOP nomination by defeating Trish Shoulders, of Edinboro.

DiMattio is virtually assured of winning  in the Nov. 5 municipal election because no Democrat ran for the office and he will now appear on both party ballots.

Independents and third-party candidates still have a chance to join that and any other race until Aug. 1.

DiMattio represents the 6th Council District, which takes in much of southern Erie  County.
