Corbett to talk jobs, tour Erie plant

Jobs will be on the agenda when Gov. Tom Corbett visits an Erie plant today.

He will tour FMC Technologies Inc., 1602 Wagner Ave., at 2:30 p.m.,  then discuss the state’s economy and the importance of job training and matching skilled people with available jobs.

With the recent downbeat news about job losses at GE Transportation, FMC is one of the region’s bright economic stories.

The company employs 350 people and continues to grow.

FMC Technologies purchased the Erie plant in 1996. It is the former Smith-Meter, Inc.

FMC makes metering and measurement equipment, including some used for metering natural gas and oil.
