Lt. governor candidate visits Erie

It’s political summer in Erie.

Politicians will attend today’s Erie Club picnic at Waldameer Park, and that includes a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor in 2014, Brad Koplinski, of Harrisburg.

Koplinski, 44, has been a member of Harrisburg City Council since his election in 2007. He won that seat by four votes – again proving the importance of voters actually getting out and voting.

According to information provided by Koplinski’s camp, he advocates for transparency in government and protection of taxpayer funds.

He previously worked at the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the IRS’ Office of Chief Counsel, both in Washington, D.C.

Besides the Erie Club picnic, Koplinski is meeting with local government officials in Erie and surrounding counties to talk about how the state can be a better partner with municipalities and school districts. Those meetings started Wednesday and will run through Friday.

He also met business, labor and Democratic leaders from the region at the Colony Pub on Wednesday.

He announced his candidacy in February and has visited 48 of the state’s 67 counties. This marks his second trip to Erie this summer.
