“We always ride together.” Sierra Newlon, 11, second from right. These friends from Fulton Street enjoy the wide, straight sidewalk next to Holy Family Church in Erie on June 18. The temperatures felt like fall, but Emily Mascaro, 11, far left, said, “It’s way better in summer. You get to hang out more.” They ride their scooters from pole to pole, with a couple of squirt guns thrown in to make things interesting. There are scrapes and falls, but the action goes on. “We like to do tricks,” said Kenton Conley, 8, second from left. Others in the group are Gage Mascaro, 6, center, Brianna Newlon, 11, background, and Kayla Newlon, 5, right.

"They squirt you and you squirt back, and you get to pick up balls and throw it at them," says Ransome Turner-Rush. On a recent spring evening, six-year-old Ransome Turner-Rush and his sister, Tanner Turner-Rush, 13, decided to try out the bumper boats at Family First Sports Park. It was the first time riding bumper boats for both of them. The siblings, of Harrisburg, were in town for a soccer tournament at the park. Although Ransome felt the water was cold, he said the experience was fun. More than once, he exclaimed that the best part of all was "squirting people."

"I've liked trains ever since I was born." Joe Sullivan Thirteen-year-old Joe Sullivan was born in Erie, but now lives with his family in Cumming, Ga. He was glad to be visiting family in Erie so he'd have a chance to shoot video of the trains that pass through, such as this CSX locomotive near West 16th Street and Greengarden Boulevard on May 28. "It's too mountainous where we live, there aren't any tracks. This is the major main line running from New York to Chicago. I hope to see a CSX Intermodal from the east or a Union Pacific mixed freight train from the west." He posts the video on YouTube and said trains interest him because "they revolutionized the shipping industry."
