9-year old Minnesota boy suspended for imitating suggestive Michael Jackson move

It was at a fundraiser like so many fundraisers held at so many elementary schools across the country. Kids were asked to lip synch at the talent night–and effort to raise some money for St. Stanislaus in Winona, Minnesota.

All acts apparently had been “approved” according to the Winona Daily News. But when a 9-year old boy finished his lip synched performance of “Billie Jean” and grabbed himself in his private parts, a la Michael Jackson’s groin grab, the boy was immediately suspended for an indefinite period.

A later email sent to parents thanked everyone for participating and offered an apology for the one “inappropriate” act on stage.

MSNBC.com and the Huffington Post picked up the story. The latter is running a short clip of the controversial video. See for yourself.

We’re talking about a Catholic school here, so it doesn’t fall under the purview of the public school system or its policies and procedures. According to the schools’ manual, the principal can suspend a student for gross misconduct. I guess the question is, is this gross misconduct?

What do you think? Take the poll!
