Notre Dame sues the Obama administration in Catholic rebellion

Joining Erie diocese’s Bishop Trautman and the St. Martin Center, Father John Jenkins, president of Notre Dame, is suing the Obama administration over its health care plan. It’s joined the fray along with at least 40 other Catholic institutions across the country.

In what is a concerted effort to “protect their First Amendment rights to freedom of religion,” Catholic institutions are in full rebellion against part of the Obama health care initiative that would require employers to provide co-pay free contraception, sterilization, and ‘morning-after’ pills in their health plans—something that is in direct opposition with current church teachings.

Previous efforts to attack the Obama plan turned into what many felt was an attack on women. Repositioning their argument into one of protecting religious freedom changed all of that. Or so they hope.

The Catholic League has promised that even more institutions will be coming forward in the all-out blitz.
