At 85, the head of the Roman Catholic Church has handily moved into the 21st century by opening a Twitter account.
Now, there has been a twitter account set up under his moniker for awhile, but it hasn’t been his personal account. This other account is under the handle, “Pope2YouVatican.” What did he tweet on that account? Well, most likely the tweets were generated by Vatican handlers, and a lot of them were in Italian–no surprise there. On Sept. 16, he tweeted, “My God bless Lebanon; may he bless all the peoples of this beloved region of the Middle East and may he grant them the gift of peace.” I’ll second that.
No word from the Vatican yet on what his new twitter handle will be. But I have some thoughts. How about, ”I’m the Pope” or “Closest to God?” Or maybe, “Anointed One,” “On this Rock” or “St. Peter’s Successor.”
