John Chereson

Anyone who watched a Cathedral Prep football game this season saw placekicker John Chereson’s special skill.

The senior’s leg was so strong that Prep’s kickoff team rarely had to cover a kick. That’s because so many of Chereson’s kicks ended up in the end zone for a touchback. And considering Prep was one of the highest scoring teams in the state, Chereson launched a lot of kicks. He also was a talent on extra points and field goals. (He set the school record with a 52-yarder.)

Chereson could have taken offers from smaller schools, but he wanted to attend Notre Dame and play for the Figthing Irish. As a result, he will take a preferred walk-on spot at ND with the opportunity to earn playing time and possibly a scholarship.

Recently, the website notredame.247sports.com posted a story on Chereson and another walk-on kicker for the Fighting Irish.
