Erie’s Coleman accepts coaching job with Mercyhurst University golf

Erie resident Ron Coleman, who has been a dominant player in Erie District Golf Association golf, has been hired as the head coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams at Mercyhurst University.

Coleman, a 1979 Mercyhurst graduate, previously coached for Villa Maria Academy, Mercyhurst Prep and Cathedral Prep. He compiled a 201-9 record at Cathedral Prep from 1997 to 2004 and from 2006-07. He also coached one PIAA individual champion and two PIAA runner-up teams.

As a player, Coleman has won eight Erie District Golf Association individual titles. He was inducted into the Metro Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

Coleman is employed as a juvenile counselor clinician at the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center.
