The Gannon and Edinboro women’s basketball teams received good news Sunday night when both advanced to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Reigonal, which the Golden Knights will host this weekend.
However, the Gannon men and the other two area D-II teams will be sitting out the rest of the postseason.
Indiana, Slippery Rock and East Stroudsburg were the only teams from the PSAC to qualify for the NCAA men’s tournament when the bids were announced late Sunday night. All three will play in the Atlantic Regional this weekend.
Gannon, which finished 22-7, had the best chance of the three area teams with a 22-7 record. However, the Golden Knights suffered a damaging loss to Slippery Rock in the PSAC tournament quarterfinals Tuesday. Slippery Rock (22-8) went on to earn the NCAA berth when it advanced to the PSAC title game Saturday night before losing to IUP (24-5).
The Edinboro men finished 18-10 and Mercyhurst closed at 16-13.
