Former Behrend coach Grace dies

Former Penn State Behrend soccer and baseball coach Dennis Grace died July 5 at his home in Elkhart, Ind., after a long battle with cancer. He was 60.

Grace, who was born in Erie and attended East High School and Behrend, also coached men’s and women’s soccer at Division I Notre Dame.

He led the Irish’s men’s soccer team to its first NCAA championship appearance in 1988. Grace coached the Irish men’s soccer program from 1984-89. He also was the first varsity women’s soccer coach at Notre Dame in 1988.

Grace’s overall record as a college soccer head coach was 134-79-19.

Grace played baseball and soccer under coach Herb Lauffer at Behrend.
