A report on the mlive.com website Friday suggested that Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is being coy about talking too much about the Spartans’ new offense.
Mike Griffith wondered whether that meant Cathedral Prep grad and MSU freshman quarterback Damion Terry might be involved in a switch to more of a read-option offense.
“What about the read option?” Griffith asked. “As a second offense, perhaps with redshirt freshman Tyler O’Connor and/or incoming freshman Damion Terry at the controls?”
Senior starter Andrew Maxwell returns but several online reports have speculated that Terry might make an immediate impact. Fans have high expectations for Terry, and his arrival was highly anticipated on the East Lansing campus.
Terry led Prep to a 15-0 record and a PIAA Class AAA title in 2012. He passed for 3,599 yards and 50 touchdowns while throwing just 8 interceptions.
Another recent online story by the Detroit News delved into the relationship between Terry and former Prep teammate Delton Williams, who also is preparing for his freshman season at Michigan State.
