McDowell graduate James Conner, a freshman running back for Pitt, will try to continue his strong early start to the season Saturday when the Panthers (1-1 overall, 0-1 ACC) visit Duke (2-1, 0-1). Kickoff is 12:30 p.m.
Conner had a breakout game Saturday in Pitt’s 49-27 victory over New Mexico. He had 12 rushes for 119 yards, including touchdown runs of 1 and 38 yards.
Through two games, the 6-foot 2-inch 230-pound Conner has a team-high 153 yards on 21 carries for an average of 7.8 yards per attempt.
Conner has received a lot of attention since the New Mexico game along with fellow true freshman Tyler Boyd, a former Clairton star.
