Several area colleges are conducting fundraisers and awareness events for charity this weekend. Here are a few:

• The Edinboro men’s basketball team and women’s basketball team will join their efforts for Fighting Scots Fighting Cancer Day when Pitt-Johnstown visits McComb Fieldhouse Saturday. The Edinboro wrestling team also will get involved with the same cause Saturday night when it hosts Buffalo.

• The Gannon men’s basketball team and women’s basketball team will join forces in Pink Zone games for breast cancer awareness Saturday afternoon.

• Mercyhurst sophomores Taylor Jezuit and Kierstyn Sturmer shaved their heads last weekend to spread cancer awareness. Jezuit is a member of the softball team, while Sturmer plays on the field hockey team.

Jezuit and Sturmer participated in “Bald for Bucks”, a fundraiser out of Buffalo that raises money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. All of the proceeds that are raised go to research done in Roswell Park to find a cure for cancer. Locks for Love has partnered with “Bald for Bucks” to collect donated hair and make wigs for cancer patients.

Jezuit and Sturmer raised more than $700 for the cause.
