The powerhouse Penn State wrestling team rolled to its 15th victory in 16 dual meets this season Sunday with a 43-3 victory over Clarion in front of a sellout crowd at PSU’s Rec Hall.
However, Fort LeBoeuf graduate Evan Daley was a bright spot for the Golden Eagles. Daley, a freshman heavyweight, upset No. 12-ranked Jimmy Lawson 7-6 in the final match for Clarion’s only team points.
It was the final dual of the season for Clarion (9-15) , which will prepare for the Eastern Wrestling League tournament March 8 at Cleveland State.
No. 1-ranked Penn State, the three-time defending NCAA Division I champion, celebrated Senior Day and bid farewell to a pair of superstar wrestlers with a combined 253-6 record.
David Taylor improved to 26-0 this season and 126-3 in his career with an 11-second pin at 165 pounds. He’s a former national champion and a two-time national runner-up.
Ed Ruth, a two-time national champ, also earned a pin at 184 pounds in his final home dual. Ruth is now 25-1 on the season and 127-3 in his career.
