Villa Maria graduate Kayla McBride is already having a week to remember, and the week is a little more than a day old.

McBride scored 28 points Sunday while leading the unbeaten Notre Dame women’s basketball team to an 87-61 victory over Maryland in the NCAA Division I Women’s Final Four at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. She will lead the No. 2 Fighting Irish into a historic game Tuesday night when they meet No. 1 UConn in a battle of unbeaten teams for the national championship.

During today’s off day at the Final Four, McBride will find out whether she has won the Naismith Trophy as the top player in the nation. She is one of four finalists, along with UConn’s Breanna Stewart, Baylor’s Odyssey Sims and Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike. Stewart was named AP Player of the Year last week.

McBride also is a Wooden Award finalist and is on the Watch List for the Wade Trophy, the winners of which will be announced later this week.
