Three seniors helped the Gannon women’s golf team to a victory Saturday in the two-day, eight-team Gannon Spring Invitational at Lake Shore Country Club.
It was the fifth team title for Gannon this spring, which is a program record for a season.
Senior Amanda Teodorsson of Sweden led the Golden Knights with a third-place finish among a field of 51, shooting a two-round score of 159. She birdied the final hole to finish with an 81 Saturday after opening with a 78 Friday.
Seniors Bhanisha Nagindas of Brampton, Ontario, and Mary Eighmy, a McDowell graduate, also had strong efforts as Gannon finished with a score of 661 for a five-stroke win over runner-up Mercyhurst. Nagindas tied for seventh with a 165 (81-84). Eighmy tied for 13th with a 173 (85-88).
“I can’t think of a better way to end this incredible season,” Gannon coach Abby Sorensen said. “Amanda, Bhanisha and Mary each counted scores for our starting lineup, which is appropriate for such a great group of seniors,”
Gannon freshman Diana Munoz tied for fifth with a 164 (78-86).
Mercyhurst had three top-10 finishers in Gaelin Carrig (third, 155), Caitlin Kempton (fourth, 163), and Andrea Novoa (tie for fifth, 164) as the Lakers finished with a two-round total of 666.
Allegheny’s Miranda Santucci shot a 72 Saturday to finish at 149 as she defended her tournament title with a six-stroke victory. Allegheny, the 2013 team champion, tied for third with Ursuline with a 682 total.
