The Associated Press is reporting that the National Labor Relations Board will take a second look at the Northwestern football team’s effort to unionize.

The NLRB has granted Northwestern University‚Äôs request that it review its ruling that the school’s football players are employees of the school with collective bargaining rights.

The board said a previously scheduled vote by Northwestern football players on whether to unionize could go forward Friday but ballots would be impounded temporarily.

The Chicago office of the National Labor Relations Board ruled on March 26 that Northwestern scholarship football players are in essence employees of the school and therefore could unionize. The full five-member federal board is now weighing the appeal request.
