Ed Hinkel

That’s the jersey number that Cathedral Prep great Ed Hinkel wore in high school and at the University of Iowa.

Hinkel had a brilliant career at Prep, where he played multiple positions, led the Ramblers to a state championship and eventually was voted the Erie Times-News Male High School Athlete of the Decade for the years spanning 2000-09.

At Iowa from 2002-05, Hinkel gained fame for his outstanding hands . He finished his career with 135 catches for 1,599 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown and a punt return for a TD.

His best year came in his junior season in 2004 when he caught 63 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns.
