There is a new buoy system with an attached camera that allows boaters to view the lake conditions as well as provide them with other important information. The buoy is located 5 miles from the mainland in 50 feet of water. The Weather,Water, and Wave Buoy System is provided by a grant from the Great Lakes Observing System(GLOS) to The Regional Science Consortium in Erie.

Lake Erie weather conditions, including water and wave measurements are collected every hour by the buoy. This data along with video clips are sent to the Regional Science Consortium website every hour. The website link for the provided buoy information is www.PaLakeErieBuoy.com  .

Anglers and boaters are encouraged by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to check weather conditions before going out on the water. With the new buoy system in place, checking the conditions of Lake Erie will be a lot easier.
