Then on Saturday night, Bassin heaped the ultimate praise on his newest prospect. “He’s going to be a leader here,” Bassin said of Brown, a right winger selected in the 13th round. “He’s captain material.”
Bassin pointed to Brown’s heart, hockey intelligence and vision on the ice. Apparently, Brown also is a fine student. The honor roll student from Etobicoke, Ontario, had opportunities to play NCAA Division I hockey at Brown, Colgate and Providence.
Brown, 17, younger brother of former OHL player Jeff Brown (Oshawa and Windsor, 2008-11) wrestled with deciding between the OHL and NCAA all summer. On Saturday, he officially chose the OHL and the Otters because “it’s the right spot,” Brown said. “I”m really happy with this choice.”
* News and notes: The club’s front-office staff will move its office to a building on the corner of 8th and Holland streets starting Sept. 16 because of the upcoming renovations, said Shawn Waskiewicz, assistant general manager of administration.
