Andre Burakovsky

Andre Burakovsky seemed like he was itching to get back on the ice as practice began today at JMC Ice Arena. He stood by the gate as teammates stepped onto the ice. But like fellow forward Dylan Strome, Burakovsky had to wait until the final 20 minutes of practice to skate for the first time since suffering head injuries from hits to the head in back-to-back games a week ago.
Both are finally symptom free, and passed off-ice workouts like riding stationary bikes this past weekend. So they skated lightly and without contact today. If symptoms don’t return Tuesday, the on-ice workout will intensify a bit in the afternoon practice. They hope to resume full practices with the team later in the weeks in hopes of playing Friday night against Niagara at Erie Insurance Arena.
Speaking of practice, Connor McDavid wasn’t at JMC today. No need

for fans to hold their breath, though. He was back home in Newmarket, Ontario, undergoing standard physical testing that, I’m assuming, is common among top players like himself. He’ll be back on the ice with the team on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the players seemed to be in good spirits for their first on-ice session since a stinging 1-0 loss to Guelph at EIA this past Saturday night, which coupled with the Storm’s 6-1 win against Kingston on Sunday, dropped the Otters one point behind the Storm in the race for the OHL and Western Conference regular-season titles and home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
The players began practice with a ‘Let’s Go Otters’ chant, and even showed off a little for kids that stuck around the rink after the public skating session ended. The Otters will be at JMC the rest of the week because of Erie BayHawks basketball…
