OTTERS EXTRA: Evans, Pettit out for this weekend – perhaps longer

Jake Evans

Here’s what I know about the status of injured Erie Otters Fs Jake Evans (lower body) and Kyle Pettit (upper body).
Evans underwent a MRI earlier today, but head coach Kris Knoblauch had not learned the results as of the start of today’s practice at Erie Insurance Arena. Pettit was examined earlier today, and will undergo a MRI on Wednesday. They won’t travel with the team for this weekend’s road trip to North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.
Here’s what I think I know…Pettit may be dealing with a shoulder injury. I didn’t see how was he was hurt early in Saturday’s game against NIagara. But I’ve been told that it appeared Pettit crashed shoulder first into the boards. Head coach Kris Knoblauch didn’t disclose too much, but he did say Pettit will be out “awhile.” Shoulder injuries can be troublesome for hockey players. Just ask RW Joel Wigle, who missed most of the offseason following surgeries on both shoulders, and then sat out two months with a fractured clavicle.
Meanwhile, Evans was tangled up with a defender during Monday’s game in Kitchener. That makes me wonder if it’s the same knee he injured during training camp (although Knoblauch said it wasn’t). Evans crashed awkwardly into the boards after getting tangled up with another player in August.
Neither player was made available to the media today. I hope to have an update on both players before the team leaves for North Bay on Wednesday.
