OTTERS REPORT: Karlsson staying in Sweden for family reasons

Kevin Epp of Titan Sports Management in Vancouver, B.C. – one of CHL 1st-round pick Anton Karlsson‘s North American-based agents – says Karlsson has chosen to play in his native Sweden to be closer to his family.
Karlsson’s decision capped what Epp called a frustrating situation, which began in the months before the 2014 CHL draft in July, when Karlsson apparently was looking forward to playing in North America. At that time, Epp said he was 80 percent certain that Karlsson would play in the CHL. Karlsson began to have doubts after the draft, even though his agents and Arizona Coyotes, which drafted him in June, want him to play in Erie. Now Epp has learned about Karlsson’s deal in Sweden.
Epp doesn’t foresee more talks with Karlsson in the immediate future. But Epp said there’s a possibility that Karlsson still could end up in Erie. The Otters have until the Jan. 10 trade deadline to sign Karlsson and add him to the roster.
“He can change his mind,” Epp said, if Karlsson doesn’t like playing for his new team or doesn’t have a good start to the season.
