Erie celebrates after Holaday’s latest hit

Erie SeaWolves catcher Bryan Holaday extended his team-high hitting streak to 11 straight games with an RBI single against Trenton on Tuesday.

Holaday’s seventh-inning single scored Bryan Pounds for the lone run in Erie’s 1-0 victory over the Thunder at Jerry Uht Park. The SeaWolves moved to 17-19 with their second straight win, while the Thunder dropped to 20-18 in the teams’ first meeting of 2011.

SeaWolves starter Casey Crosby and three relievers combined for the shutout. Erie pitchers have only allowed one run over their last 22 innings of Eastern League action.

Erie newcomer Adam Calderone was an eighth-inning defensive replacement in left field, but didn’t bat. The Detroit Tigers acquired Calderone, 27, from the Toronto Blue Jays organization earlier Tuesday and assigned him to the SeaWolves.
