Former Erie intern to run Iowa franchise

Former Erie SeaWolves intern Stefanie Brown has been hired as general manager the Quad Cities River Bandits in the Single-A Midwest League.

Brown’s hire was notable not only because of her gender, but because she’s only 28. She began her baseball career as a SeaWolves intern for the 2005 Eastern League season.

Brown has worked for the Bandits since 2008, and as assistant general manager since 2009. She takes over for Kirk Goodman.

Quad Cities is actually located in Davenport, Iowa. The team is affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Because of massive flooding along the Susquehanna River, the Eastern League announced Friday that all five games of the Western Division semifinal series between the Harrisburg Senators and the Richmond Flying Squirrels will take place at The Diamond in Richmond.

The series has yet to start because of the flooding. Harrisburg, the division champion, was supposed to host games one, two and five.

The Eastern Division semifinal, also delayed by bad weather, finally got underway Thursday in New Hampshire. The Fisher Cats blanked the Reading Phillies 2-0.
