Lost in Tiger talk is sleeper in the outfield

It hasn’t been a week since the blockbuster announcement of Prince Fielder joining the Tigers for $214 million, yet everyone interested in baseball seems to still want to talk about it.

You can talk about whether the deal was for too long (nine years, and yes, it was), too much (again, yes) or if the Tigers were too foolish for overlooking defense in their quest for a World Series title (yes).

I want to talk fantasy impact.

Fielder hit 38 home runs, had 120 RBIs and scored 95 runs.

Very good numbers in Milwaukee last year, just don’t expect him to improve on those homers.

I’m thinking Fielder will have a line something like this: 33/115/100.

That’s worth paying for.

But there’s something else I liked when looking at the Tigers’ projected lineup: a sleeper.

If I’m drafting today, I’m going all in on Delmon Young.

Young should hit fifth, right behind Miguel Cabrera and Fielder.

I love those RBI opportunities.

Young, who’s only 26 years old, had eight homers and 32 RBIs in 40 games with the Tigers last season.

I think he’ll approach 30 home runs and get at least 90 RBIs.

So while other might draft bigger names, I’m content on waiting to get Young on my team.

Just don’t wait too long.
