Greg Peavey and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout for the Binghamton Mets, who beat the Erie SeaWolves 8-0 Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. The hosts also were aided by home runs from Juan Lagares and Allan Dykstra in the opener of the teams’ three-game series.

Erie (1-3) only managed singles from Brandon Douglas, Jordan Lennerton, Corey Jones and Brent Wyatt. However, the SeaWolves still squandered scoring chances, as evidenced by their eight stranded base runners.

Thursday night could be one of the exciting in Erie’s recent professional sports history.

Not only will the SeaWolves face Bowie in their 2012 Eastern League home opener at Jerry Uht Park, but the Erie BayHawks will play the Austin Toros in first game of their best-of-three NBA D-League quarterfinal series at adjacent Tullio Arena. First pitch for the baseball game is 6:35 p.m., with tip-off for the basketball game at 7.

Because of that, the SeaWolves and BayHawks will treat fans to a rare two-for-one offer. Anyone holding a ticket for either game can get into the other event by showing it at the box office. The free seats for the basketball game will be for the main level.
