Finally, Bryan Pounds was worth his weight at the plate.
Pounds, hitless through the Erie SeaWolves’ first four games, socked two home runs during Tuesday night’s 6-1 victory at Binghamton’s NYSEG Stadium. The third baseman gave Erie the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning, and a solo shot in the eighth.
Tony Plagman recorded three of Erie’s 11 hits. John Murrian and Niuman Romero each were good for two.
Starting pitcher James Avery, in his first appearance in the Detroit Tigers’ minor league system, blanked the Mets on three hits over five innings.
Tuesday’s outcome left each team 2-3 overall.
